Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 sets itself back for a round two. Not only is this game similar to the successful origin of the mechanized franchise, but Gundam 2 is action-packed full with stories, many more characters and different modes to keep you entertained and hooked on for however long you desire. It starts here!
The roster is vast and shiny, the pilots are full of vigor and to help their friends and to get their revenge! Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 comes with a range of characters scoping from the original Gundam anime featuring Amuro Ray to the later series such as the SEED Destiny series. Not only can you unlock many pilots who's stats differ from personality to appearance, but this robotic inspired game has enabled a many fans from around the globe to get their pads feasting amongst a much larger diversity of machines - ranging from the comical Ball to the flashy Strike Freedom. And do not worry about needing to move around slowly in this title with Judau's ZZ, thanks to the games upgraded speed engine, number 2 is so much more swifter and fluent in expressing itself, especially it's qualities.
The story bases around Char's Counterattack, the pilot who in the first pilots the Hyaku Shiki, famous for it's golden brilliance and dashing movement. So fans of the first Gundam game by KOEI will no doubt be wetting their appetites from something different here.
Moving on to the actual gameplay, you will get as much as three times the content as before, shinier and more polished graphics, and more foes to break apart. That's a big difference as one could expect. And since Gundam 1 just allowed you to perform a fourth charge attack which is done by pressing square three times and triangle once on the PS3 pad, Gundam 2 will surpass that with six charges. Also, a new smash attack has been introduced which gives your giant creation a chance to power-up for a strong hit. A new set of ultimate attacks renown as a musou attack has been featured here, too. This attack will now be able to differ from level of the musou bar to even in the air. Don't think though that these will be easy to pull-off, as even now even the active grunts will cause more problems, the AI has been improved dramatically. In fact though, one of the biggest threats and more intimidating are the additions of mega-sized robots, so you thought they couldn't get any bigger, think again! In an early stage it took quite a lengthy sitting to take down one of this scale. They act as bosses throughout. Your task is to target certain parts which are highlighted by colors of weakness and strength. Using this to your advantage and as a common thought, will knock the colossus down and ready to exploit and wreak havoc.
Now, the mode options are even more time consuming, great news for fans of the original. From a Free Mission which is similar to the Free Mode in the Dynasty Warriors series, to the story of Char's Counterattack, to Friendship Missions. The latter works as follows - the more you help an ally and fulfill certain goals, the higher chance that pilot will help you out and the higher he or she will be up in your list from trusted to not trusted. There is also Mission Mode which can get you missions by talking to characters to open them up. So, there's a massive boast of stuff to do in this PS3 or Xbox 360 game. And actually, other neat plusses from the game worth mentioning are the ability to watch all the cutscenes you've witnessed again, the chance to gather parts and create to form in the lab, and the ability to finding online VS via the Playstation Network (PS3) and Xbox Live! (360), too.
The music consists of the returning tunes and also some new tracks, but no signs of the anime music that features in the Japanese version of Gundam Musou 2. No JP voice option either, but the languages available are in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. And thankfully for those people eager to know of the English voices, the likes of characters such as Kamille, Judau, Puru, and even Heero, plus the rest have returned.
This is it for Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2. For those who wanted more, Gundam 2 delivers. It delivers by improving and exceeding on every aspect of Dynasty Warriors: Gundam. One step forward for robotic-kind.
