The World of Kessen III
The evil that plagues Japan is creating a massive war, now one young warrior has risen, and his name is Nabunaga Oda, whom has risen to destroy the world of chaos and suffering and bring peace back to the land. You start off with so many officers on your side, and will have a few battles to fight in, which you get to choose yourself in the war council, when you go into battle, before you start, you deploy what units you want in battle, and then after that you issue the orders to the units so they know what to do in the battle. Then when you eventually start the battle, after doing the strategy part, you will be controlling your main unit, which will normally be Nabonaga Oda, but you can change which unit to control within the battle. Each battle has their own different and unique victory condition, which can be easy or very hard, depending on how many enemy units are on the field and how many troops the units have.
Also in battle, you will be able to pick up items which can be armour, or weapons to equip to your officers, or there could be things that increase your troops again. You loose troops when you are under attack, and when your troops go to zero, your unit will retreat from the battlefield. There will also be obstacles in the battles like barricades, arrow towers, rifle towers, encampments, which are all destroyable, and sometimes you have to destroy them to win the battle. When you win the battle, the officers that went into battle will gain experience, which means they will be closer to levelling up or actually level up, and when they do that, their stats go up and their max troops increase, so your army will be bigger and better.
There are other things to do other then battle, like when you win battles you get money, which means you will be able to buy items from the merchant like armour, weapons, different troops, accessories to make your army better. The further you progress through the story, means the more officers you will meet and join you, where you may encounter rebellions in your army or esteemed trust. Mainly in this game, you will be on your own fighting against allied armies, which seems a bit unfair yet fun and difficult. By doing certain battles will gain access to more battles, and will take you further into the story of Kessen III. There are special things you can do in a battle instead of just doing a basic attack, you are able to charge or do a power attack with your unit, if you are not hit in the charging up period. Also you are able to use Support, Tactical, Offensive, Ninjutsu and Samurai skills to defeat enemy units or increase your stats / decrease enemy stats to gain a big advantage in the fight. Also using these skills will decrease the morale of enemy troops which will make them slower and weaker which is a good thing.
My Opinion
I found this game very enjoyable, have played it loads, through all of the battles, it is just intense and great fun. The strategy and action mix is brilliant and makes this a good game, yet the game has its flaws, as it can seem quite repetitive sometimes, and it can be surprisingly difficult, and lack of mini battles too, which means you can have a disadvantage later in the game as you will have a few high level officers while the rest are very low level officers. But the thrill of battling to conquer and unite the country, and stop the evil forces that want to dominate the country for their evil ideas is just good fun. The playability of the game is pretty good, the move ability is good, and the gameplay is good in general. I find the game quite addictive, some how it keeps dragging you back for more and more, the story is so gripping that you have to play the game over and over again, which is the sign of a decent game.
The game is very original, the new content, the whole new battle system, is pretty good, the epic battles you fight, yet may have a lack of mini battles, but is still a pretty long game which will keep you hooked for months to come, even when you complete the game you will want to play it again so you can recruit new officers that you never had the chance to recruit before, plus with all the items you can equip just makes this game pretty original as it is completely different to its predecessors which makes this original compared to Kessen and Kessen II. The graphics are very detailed in this game, every troop is very detailed and the environments of the battlefields are also very detailed which makes this game good to look at and is very smooth.
The sound effects of the game are very good, with the slashing noises of the spears, and the grunts of the soldiers when attacking, sounds very realistic. The background music is pretty epic and oriental style which makes it good, and sets the mood of the game and the style and period it is set in. The voices are good in this game, they are in English, and voices are all of the time accept when you are talking to a villager on the battlefield, which you will hear a little bit, then will have to read what the person has to say, but everyone else is voiced which is very good, not some voices and some reading, it's the real thing. The game is pretty difficult, if you don't know what you are doing, there is a decent tutorial at the beginning which you have to do when you first start the game, some battles are pretty easy, but a lot of them are very hard, if you don't know the right route to go, as some battles may seem impossible which could actually be fairly easy.
Overall this game is good fun, but not as good as Kessen 2 in my point of view. The story is good, but kind of gets boring after a while, but it is a worthy investment.
Thanks For Reading!
